Burke For Revere
Having gone through some of the process of running for a position on the school board, it's not lost on me all the work and sacrifice the previous candidates have poured into what it takes to put yourself out there and run for the Revere School Board. I have great appreciation and admiration for those past and present who have been willing to take that leap.
That is partly why I feel so fortunate that I have not had to go through this alone. As I was contemplating the decision to launch a campaign for a seat on the Revere School Board, a mutual friend connected me with a woman who many of you already know and respect, Jennifer Burke. As the current Vice-President of the Cuyahoga Valley Career Board, a Revere alumni, Richfield born and bred, Jennifer was similarly having the necessary discussions with her family and confidants about what it would look like to run for a seat on the board, and what that would mean for her personally and for her family. There was also an idea about the potential of Jennifer and I running together in full support of each other's campaigns. Back in December, Jennifer and I sat down for a long meeting and got to know one another. We talked about our family histories in the community, our personal backgrounds, our spouses, our kids, and what mattered to us most about the future of the Revere School District. We spent time in genuine and honest conversation about how we both viewed the world. It was a wonderful first meeting and a big catalyst for the strategy of our current campaigns.
What was so striking and what made us feel compatible to run together is not what you may expect. We share the same passion and deeply rooted ties to the Bath/Richfield communities and to Revere schools. We both have or will have kids enrolled at Revere. We believe deeply in the unwavering power of love and kindness. We are committed to helping this district regardless of the outcome of this election. But there are also some very clear differences in who we are as individuals. Our upbringings, value systems and worldviews are not perfectly aligned. We don’t view every important issue the same, and our life experiences have shaped who we are in different ways. For us, however, that's the beauty of our partnership and why we are so confident in our ability to work together. We share a vision for Revere, but we also expect to have constructive healthy debate on big-ticket policy decisions that will impact the district. We know we won’t always agree, but we have belief and trust in each other because our motivations come from a genuine place of love and respect. We want the best for our students, teachers and staff, and we will work together every day along with the other three board members to deliver on our promises.
There is one issue on which Jennifer and I are very much aligned and have discussed at great length: We want to see our community and board unified and the influence of politics and personal ideologies taken out of the equation. We know there is work to be done to fix our issues, and we can do that by focusing on what matters. We won't be afraid to have the tough conversations with each other and the other board members to ensure we are producing policy that supports our goals as a district and sets Revere on a path to future success.
In the coming months you certainly will see Jennifer and I out in the community together, supporting one another, and cheering each other on. I’m grateful to be on this journey with such a wonderful human being, and we look forward to working together beginning in January 2026.
